The Canine
Nanny teaches people how to become their dog’s best friend by teaching
them the skills of simple canine communication. People are taught how to use
body language, voice, timing, and most of all a good leadership attitude so that
ultimately they can teach their dogs canine etiquette.
Treat
training is not included as a method of teaching dogs how to relate with their
people. This is not to say that treats are never allowed; they are not generally
used as part of the teaching protocol. If however, it is deemed necessary to use
food/treats then that will be considered on a per
situation basis. Treats or food are used to teach good manners, for example
taking gently from hands and waiting for permission to take.
Relationship or leadership
training is the crux of the Canine Nanny’s teachings. When there is a great
relationship between dogs and their humans they want to stay close by, they love
to please and there is harmony in the home (at least with the dog or dogs).
Personal training with the
person/people and their dog is done in the comfort of their own living
environment. This minimizes stress and also allows training to take place in any
or all rooms of the home. Also outside walks and dealing with distractions are a
big part of the training.
People are taught the skills to
understand and guide their dogs towards a healthy and happy relationship. The
training is set up to help people in as little as one session; generally, people
like to continue or need to continue for 4-6 sessions or more if required. These
are tailored to meet both financial and developmental needs. Follow-up by
telephone is always part of the training and any and all questions by the client
are encouraged.
